Special actuators for ballast systems on ships
In ships, valves and actuators are submerged into the ballast tanks. Traditionally, shipbuilders always have used hydraulic actuators for these applications. However, due to more stringent environmental legislation a solution less hazardous to the environment was called for (in the event of leakage, hydraulic oil could spill into open water). We have created a pneumatic system, comprising of a pneumatic control system and pneumatic actuators.
Advantages of our system:
- The actuators can be operated by PU tubing; only one tube is required for operating a spring return actuator and only one tube is required for remote position indication.
- There is no risk of oil spill in the event of leakage
- Installation and equipment costs are lower (pneumatic components are substantially less expensive than hydraulic ones).
